"Black and white photo of hackers at computers — symbolic of the website hacking challenge faced by McAllen photographer Abel Riojas."

As a McAllen photographer, I’ve faced my share of challenges — and this week was one of those days. My website got hacked, but I’m not giving up. This setback is just another chapter in the story of rebuilding.

Before I went to work in tv news back in 1996, when I first learned to build websites during a business class. Nearly 30 years later, I’m combining that experience with my passion for photography to keep serving McAllen and its community. I learned to code and build websites back when Netscape was king! (Well I preferred it over Microsoft Explorer – IF anyone even remembers those old browsers).

Back to our story: My Website Got Hacked

A website hack is more than just a technical headache — it’s a disruption to how small businesses like mine connect with clients. For photographers, a website is a portfolio, a story, and a way to reach you.

But every challenge is an opportunity. I’m using this moment to rebuild better and stronger than before.

If you want to learn more about protecting your website, check out this guide from WordPress.org. I’ve used wordpress for the last 10 years and it’s always growing and changing, it does make life easier for everyone.

Getting Back to My Roots

Building websites and capturing photos have been part of my life for decades. Rebuilding this site is about returning to that foundation — combining my skills to tell stories that matter. It’s crazy how you can learn something years and years ago and it’s still very applicable in an ever-changing social media market.

If you want a reliable McAllen photographer who values hard work, connection, and creativity, I’m here. This is just a setback but i KNOW people will ask WHAT HAPPENED? I just thought I’d head off those questions/emails as I do generate traffic from this website.

I’ll be posting my portfolio work again and I’ll be posting stories and photos along the way. I still have a lot of the backups but as they change is good. It was time to update the website theme anyway, the other one had served me well since 2012 if you can believe that.

Thanks for sticking with me. I’m excited for what’s next.
