The Art of Making Memories: A Photographer’s Perspective

As a photographer, I have the privilege of capturing some of life’s most precious moments. From the joy of a newlywed couple on their wedding day to the excitement of a firstborn blowing out birthday candles, I’ve had the honor of documenting memories that will last a lifetime.

But beyond just taking pictures, I see myself as a storyteller. Each photograph tells a unique story, capturing the emotions, personalities, and relationships of those in front of the camera. It’s a responsibility that I don’t take lightly and one that brings me immense joy and fulfillment.

Working with me as your photographer is more than just a transaction – it’s a collaboration. I believe in building meaningful connections with my clients, getting to know their stories, and understanding their vision for each shoot. From there, I use my technical skills and artistic eye to bring that vision to life in a way that is authentic and beautiful.

And while the process of capturing memories may seem fleeting, the impact lasts a lifetime. Whether it’s flipping through a wedding album years down the road or hanging a family portrait on the wall, photographs have the power to transport us back to those special moments and remind us of the love, laughter, and joy that fills our lives.

So, if you’re ready to make memories that will last a lifetime, I invite you to join me on this journey. Together, we’ll create photographs that tell your unique story and preserve the moments you’ll cherish forever.

Harnessing the Power of Photo Branding

A Cost-Effective Approach for Authentic Representation

In today’s visually-driven world, establishing a strong brand identity is important for businesses and individuals alike. In the world of photography, crafting a cohesive and authentic visual presence can make all the difference in standing out from the crowd. However, the question often arises: should one invest in expensive stock photography or opt for a more personalized approach? Let’s delve into the significance of a photo branding strategy and why it’s not only effective but also cost-efficient.

Authentic Representation of the Local Area – The Rio Grande Valley:

One of the drawbacks of relying solely on stock photography is its lack of locality. Generic images may fail to capture the essence and unique characteristics of a particular area or community. Whether you’re a local business, or a regional influencer, authenticity is key. By incorporating images that reflect the local landscape, South Texas culture, and people, you not only establish a deeper connection with your audience but also differentiate yourself in a meaningful way.

Building Brand Identity:

Your brand is more than just a logo or a tagline; it’s the total of the experiences and perceptions associated with your business or personal brand. Every photograph you choose to represent your brand contributes to this identity. A well-thought-out photo branding strategy ensures consistency across all visual touchpoints, from your website and social media profiles to marketing materials and advertisements. Consistency breeds familiarity and trust, essential ingredients for building a loyal audience or customer base.

Cost-Effectiveness:

Contrary to popular belief, investing in a photo branding strategy is not synonymous with exorbitant costs. In fact, it can be significantly more cost-effective than purchasing high-priced stock photography licenses, especially in the long run. By creating your own library of images or collaborating with local photographers, you gain ownership and unlimited usage rights, eliminating the need to repurchase licenses for individual images. Moreover, custom photography allows for greater flexibility and tailored solutions to suit your specific needs and budget constraints.

Embracing Creativity and Individuality:

Every brand has its own story to tell, and photography serves as a powerful medium for storytelling. By harnessing the creative potential of custom imagery, you have the freedom to convey your brand’s personality, values, and unique selling propositions. Whether you prefer candid snapshots or meticulously composed shots, the possibilities are endless. Embrace your individuality and let your photos speak volumes about who you are and what you stand for.

In a world inundated with generic visuals, the value of a well-executed photo branding strategy cannot be overstated. Not only does it offer a more authentic representation of your brand and local area, but it also proves to be a cost-effective alternative to stock photography. By investing in your own imagery, you invest in the longevity and resonance of your brand. So, seize the opportunity to showcase your uniqueness and leave a lasting impression on your audience. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words—and a carefully curated collection of photos can speak volumes about your brand’s identity and values.

Fit Body, Sharp Image: The Power of Wellness and Professional Portraits for Your Company’s Success

In the dynamic and competitive business world, the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is widely acknowledged. However, there’s another crucial aspect that often goes unnoticed – the impact of a professional portrait on your company’s image. In this article, we’ll explore the symbiotic relationship between fitness and a polished corporate image, shedding light on why both are vital for your business’s success.

Body and Mind Harmony: The journey to a healthier lifestyle transcends the physical benefits. Regular exercise not only improves your body but also contributes to mental well-being. A healthy and active mind fosters creativity, resilience, and the ability to tackle challenges head-on – qualities that are indispensable in the professional realm.

Moreover, a fit and energetic team creates a positive and vibrant workplace culture. This sense of well-being resonates not only within your team but also with clients and partners. When your company embodies a culture of health, it communicates values of vitality and commitment.

Representing Your Brand: While physical health sets the foundation, an equally crucial element is the professional image your company projects. The first impression is often visual, and a well-crafted corporate portrait is the gateway to making that impression count.

Your company’s portrait is more than just a picture; it’s a visual representation of your brand identity. A well-composed portrait conveys professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail – traits that are invaluable in the business world. It becomes the face of your company, making an indelible mark on the minds of clients and partners.

Building Trust and Credibility: In a world dominated by online interactions, your corporate portrait becomes a cornerstone in building trust and credibility. Potential clients often form judgments based on the professionalism portrayed in your visuals. A crisp and polished portrait sends a clear message – that your company values quality, precision, and professionalism.

Employees as Brand Ambassadors: Encouraging your team to adopt a healthy lifestyle not only benefits their personal well-being but also transforms them into powerful brand ambassadors. When your employees embody a healthy lifestyle and project a professional image, they naturally become walking advertisements for your company. Clients and partners will associate your brand with a team that is not only physically fit but also dedicated and reliable.

Conclusion: In conclusion, the fusion of physical fitness and a strong corporate image is a recipe for success in today’s competitive business landscape. A healthy team fosters a positive work environment, while professional portraits elevate your company’s brand to new heights. By investing in both the well-being of your team and the visual representation of your company, you’re not just creating a strong brand – you’re cultivating a culture of excellence that sets you apart in the marketplace. So, gear up for success, both inside and outside the boardroom, and watch your company thrive in every aspect!

Portrait Photographer Camera Bag

Taking a 30 minute break from Precision Camera’s 2020 PCU and decided to start sorting out my camera bag.  We went from being slow to 100mph right after the county judge lifted the Covid-19 shelter at home order.  I don’t want to get into it if it was right or wrong, I’m still being careful and cleaning everything after each one of our shoots.

Anyways we took photos of just about everything.   We started doing commercial photos of a property in Harlingen and ended up doing a senior portrait at one of our favorite locations in Hidalgo.

So now beings the fun task of cleaning everything and prepping it for a new week.

I took this because when I started off many years ago I started off with one Canon body and now it’s evolved to a multi camera system that I regularly use depending on the type of photoshoot requested.

I really do enjoy what I do.

Believe it or not everything does serve a purpose.  Everything from the flashlight (find things that fall out while on location) to the the old beat up GoPro (for the fun behind the scenes photos).

It’s fun.

Photography Questions Answered

Thanks again for taking the time to stop by our blog.  I’m not even sure what this is.  This is what happens when you have time to sit down and think during this whole downtime.  I hope you and your family are well and weren’t impacted by the whole COVID-19 displacement.  For my family it’s been a lot of fun having the kids home, behind able to spend time with them, and even learn a new thing or two about them.  I found out that our oldest is a pretty good teacher, he’s helping little brother with Math and English homework and he’s pretty patient.  I’ll say this he’s a lot better brother than I was to my sisters at his age (he’s in 6th grade).

For me I’m still doing photography.  The state has opened and we’re following all the rules and the mandates they’ve put out there.  While we’re still being asked to help with High School Senior portraits for the class of 2020 I’m just being careful with the set ups.  We’re still keeping social distancing between my self and the kids and at this time we’re not using our home studio.   If you need help with a headshot we’ll be more than happy to go to your location and set up our mobile studio there.

While the outbreak did change the way did things, we were able to pivot during this time and adjust our business model.  All of our equipment has been portable for the last few years. We closed our studio because most of our clients wanted us to go to their location and take the photos at their offices / homes when it was convent for them.  So if you need something or have an idea please let me know.

While we’ve been a bit slower I decided to produce a few videos here and there just to say hello and talk about things that were on my mind or help answer questions that people had.  Everyone has their own way of doing things, I’ve made my share of mistakes and hope newer photographers can escape those pitfalls.  In the video I cover a few tips on how to start your photography business no matter where you live.  For those that are outside of the the Rio Grande Valley, I’m based in the McAllen / Mission Texas area.  I travel as far as Austin and Houston to take care of clients but I try to stick the Hidalgo County Area.  My whole goal for the business was to spend more time with my family and stay close to home.  Traveling is always fun, but it does take a lot of time out of the week to pack gear and head on out on the road.

The other question I look at is why I switched from Canon to Sony cameras after shooting one for well over twenty years.  These are just my opinions and it really depends on the type of work you do.  For the last few years I’ve been working mostly in the commercial photography side of things because I wanted to be close to home.  So most of my work lately has been corporate headshots taken on location and local events.  I’ve taken photos for a TON of local events and many of them are usually set in lower light and I really HATE blinding people with flash so I needed a little bit more help from my camera to shoot in ever changing environments while saving the photo.  I’m not a fan of highly polished event photos or pictures where everyone is washed out or squinting because of multiple flashes.

Anyways I hope to keep posting videos Tues and Thursdays here and on the rest of my social media channels.  If you have comments or have questions about photography drop me a line.  I love helping answer the questions and when things permit I’d love to show some demonstrations using everyday stuff you can find at home or something you can build quickly and cheaply.

Till next time.

Abel.

Advance 360 Interactive Workshop in the books

What a whirl wind the last three days have been.  Now that I think about it I can’t believe that April 2020 is over and we’re now in May and the state has reopened.  I don’t want to get into the politics of if it’s right or not, for me I’m going to continue being safe by distancing my self when I go out to work and also sanitizing all of my equipment.  It’s a whole new world out there.  We’ve resumed operations and following what Texas and Hidalgo county have mandated.  I rather be part of the solution than part of the whole Covid-19 problem.

Now having said that I spent almost a month in one class or another and it all just all came together with the whole Advance 360 With Pete Vargas leading the charge.  The class was good, I learned a lot and it gave me a lot of ideas for opening up another division.  Now the hardest part is starting to narrow all the ideas down, talk about information overload.  I had never even thought about teaching classes online or even doing some sort of podcast.  I’ve helped other small businesses start formulating their social media ideas and helping craft their voices but never considered doing it as a service so that’s why I took the class.  So the upshot is we’re opening up a social media division to help local businesses craft their messages online and help themselves get online quickly and with in a reasonable budget.  I’ve been doing in some capacity over the last few years, but this time I’d like to make it official.

Over all the messages were clear.  Find a coach, set a destination and stick to the course no matter what.  All stuff that we know but do we have the will power to actually do it.  I think so many of us fall into the trap of “What story do I have to tell, or my business has always done it like this, etc” yeah the world was rebooted just a few weeks ago and from the looks of things I don’t think virtual meetings are going away anytime soon.  I have two zoom meetings scheduled this next week for a senior portrait session and a local doctor looking to do some messages online.

Even this blog or what ever you want to call it has changed as I was to keep things light.  I don’t want it to turn into “here’s the last session” or if you don’t use this service your business will suffer.  I think there’ more than enough of that online.  I want to do something that’s a lot more positive and feature people and projects that I’ve had the honor of being part of.

#themcallenphotographer – February 2020 update

What have I been up to?

The question should be what haven’t we been doing.

Honestly it’s been really three things:

McAllen Web Designer

  • Building websites here in McAllen – Yeah I was a web designer in a previous life and have been building websites since 1996-ish.  I can’t remember EXACTLY when I started, but all I can say I kinda backed into the job as I had to do a marketing presentation for an advertising class.

Long story short I had an advertising class that required a group of us to build a marketing plan for a fictional company so we went with a web design theme as it was before the dot com bust and everything was going online.  We’re talking about a time where yahoo was king and google was just being mentioned in the search engine community.  Always the project went over so well and the professor loved it that she recommended us to do something together as a team on our own.  I was the only one crazy enough to do it so off I went, and the rest is history.  Now flash forward 20+ years and the world has changed so much.  There are so many agencies trying to get your attention and hold it so they can look at what ever they’re selling or advocating for.  Social media wasn’t even on anyone’s radar back then, heck even the place I graduated from has changed from UTPA to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

  • Shooting commercial photos – Part of what we do (I say we because there are other people helping me out behind the scenes) is make sure the images that you want on your website / print products match what the vision.  We’ve crafted fun headshots all shot on location or the clients’s homes/offices to showcasing one of a kind products right in the warehouse.  They never had to bring anything over to our studio here in Mission.  I learned the hard way almost 20 years ago that it’s just easier if we go to you, we take the lights, backdrops, and of course the cameras,

  • And the root of it all Video work (That’s where I started).  With God’s grace we’ll start production work again on a huge 5 part series for a local boot company.  I can’t say too much about it as we’re still finalizing the details but it’s going to be a lot of fun.  What I LOVE about video is the creativity you can place onto a story.  Every one has a story and it’s awesome that we live in a world where we can share more about what fuels us, our triumphs, and even the day to day details of what makes a great company.

And that’s really about it.  I’ve never been much for blogging but I’m trying.  It’s not going to be perfect and I’m trying my best as writing has never been one of my strong points.  I read one of Dean Graziosi‘s books a while back and really hammered on how other people’s opinions were holding him back.  He’s a great speaker but by his own words, he’s always had trouble putting his thoughts down onto paper for various reasons.  But when he just tried it all changed for him.  I figured why not.  I’ve put this thing on the back burner too long and I’d like to share a little bit more of what I do and some of the great people I get to work with.

Here’s to a good year.
