Well #2019 is here and we’ve hit the ground running. This morning we were invited to help cover Justice Dori Contreras investiture as Chief Justice of the 13th court of appeals here in Edinburg.
Retired Justice Rogelio Valdez administered the oath in front of a packed court room (in some parts it was standing room only). She’s become the first women Chief Justice of the 13th court and the second Latina state wide to service as a Chief Justice.
Good luck Judge! I know you’ll do great in everything you do and thank you for serving our community.
The sun came out just enough to knock out some photos at Bannworth Park here in #mission. The weather cooperated as did the duckies ..no one was bitten in the creation of this photo. (Namely me) …a few of the firemen were out there and the first thing they said was “Don’t get too close to them…they like fingers.”
Our tour of The City of Mission continues with a quick stop at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church here in Mission Texas. We took the exterior photos last week but had to wait till today to finally get the interior pics. They always have some many things going on and I wanted to take the photo before the started decorating for the holidays.
Yesterday we officially kicked off our Mission Chamber photo project and one of the first stops was the Historic Border Theater located right in downtown mission. I was happy that they’ve opened it up again as a private theater and have hopes that eventually they’d be able to show movies once again. The do have them from time to time but it’s usually private events and indy movies (if you like those).
Anyways I’m starting to look though the photos taken last night. Well they were able to get the neon going but it came up just a little bit short…we’ll try to figure this one out in post production…Switching gears….this place has so MANY memories for me. I remember my dad driving all the way from north McAllen to Mission to check out movies here. I remember him taking me to see Tron here and falling asleep in the front seat of the car on the way home. Later on I took my wife to see #starwars there for the first time in the late 90s when we were dating. She had never seen it and for me it was a cornerstone to my childhood (and now that I think about it some of my adult life haha).
So many awesome memories…anyone else frequent the Border Theater? Shoot me a line, love to hear from you guys.
What a great way to start off headshot week. At least that’s what i’m calling it, after shooting almost two weeks ALMOST nothing but video (there were a handful of photo sessions in there) we have a full week of headshots and other commercial photo shoots on the schedule. A huge thank you goes out to @Sauausa for taking some behind the scenes photos at the JR Ramirez headshot law firm. Theses pictures will be featured on their client’s website.
Why I love my job:Every day really is different…this week we finished our Baylor Video Stories, took photos of a new ER, even took photos of buses for a commercial photoshoot. Today I wrapped up a long work week with a surprise engagement session.
Now comes the fun part. Time to start editing yesterday’s 9/11 #mcallen Stair Climb Photos. This is one of the first one’s that came out of the #sonya7ii and I love it! It’s the local fire department setting up right before the festivities began. #MSC18
Well the summer has come and gone. We made your yearly return to the promised land…Disney World and then came right back to the first day of school here in Mission. I’m not sure if you remember what happened the last time…we were only supposed to be gone 5 days tops…and after two hurricanes we were at Disney world for a total of 12 days!
The kicker was Southwest couldn’t get us back home so were we stranded in San Antonio. So having said that I’ll never complain about air travel EVER again.
I’ll probably write a bit more on why I enjoy going to Disney World (beyond the attractions and the shows) in a another post. I’ve been reading a lot about the life he lead and what kind of person he was all the way to the very end. I kinda feel like he was someone I would have love to have met and maybe even had as a mentor. He wasn’t perfect but what tenacity to keep going the way he did.
On The Road Again
Anyways the “Meals on Wheels” video project has begun and I was looking forward to this one. It’s our first day back at the office and we’ve spent most of it cataloguing the Summer Meals raw video story. This story is going to be awesome!
We spent a day out in Roma Texas following the story of the bus drivers and the kids that they serve on their routes. The kids genuinely like them and the drivers and the cafeteria team do take the time to get to know them and encourage them.
It’s nice seeing / hearing a story from the border region that isn’t focused on politics or how one side is better than the other.
Just about to wrap up the pool photos for yesterday’s #commercialphotography project. Every time I see one of these things I want one…and then begin to wonder if we’d ACTUALLY use it. I don’t know of anyone that has a pool that really digs it…it seams to be more a hassle than anything else. Would you use a pool often if you had one
Hey this is cool! We were featured by the Mission Chamber yesterday! (I was out and about most of the day so I just saw it). Thanks for the recognition and I’m happy to be part of the family. #gomission
